One of the most popular, cost-effective, compact trucks available on the market today is the Ford Maverick. It’s designed to be affordable, modular, and efficient, and that’s what makes it one of the most desired trucks on the market. Ford decided to keep things simple, and it has paid off big time. That ethos is still in effect with the 2024 Ford Maverick, which carries over many of its features from the outgoing model year but also makes certain other features more standardized for shoppers looking to buy with convenience in mind.

The 2024 Ford Maverick retains its 2023 model year offerings but with a slight switch up in what’s now standard across the trim line, which consists of the XL, XLT, and LARIAT. Now, the standard powertrain for the 2024 model is the Ecoboost turbocharged 4-cylinder. It’s a minor but notable change, as it means that you no longer have the hybrid as the default but instead can choose to have the Maverick equipped with the hybrid.

There are still a number of packages available for the 2024 model as well, including the enthusiast-themed FX4 Package, which is perfect for light off-road adventures. The FX4 Package comes equipped with all-terrain tires, a skid plate, tow hooks, and drive modes designed to help you navigate off-road. Alternatively, the more robust Tremor Off-Road Package provides you with rugged all-terrain tires, an improved off-road suspension, increased ride height, and a skid plate.

For a more refined look, the Black Appearance Package gives you black door handles, mirrors, grille, headlamps, and black 18-inch Ebony machine-faced aluminum wheels. You can get the 2024 Ford Maverick in nine different unique exterior colors, including Azure Metallic Tri-Coat, Atlas Blue Metallic, Terrain, Shadow Black, Carbonized Gray Metallic Tri-Coat, Cactus Gray, Oxford White, Hot Pepper Red Metallic, and Iconic Silver.

Performance

A blue 2024 Ford Maverick is shown towing a jetski on a coastal road.

The base 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder powers the Maverick, providing the compact truck with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This gives the Maverick a lot of versatility in its performance so that you can get around quite easily. The 4-cylinder is available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. You also have a rotary gear shift dial to easily select the drive modes from the console.

The 2.5-Liter Hybrid Engine

The second powertrain option available for the 2024 Maverick is the 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder hybrid. This powertrain features a fuel-efficient design in a front-wheel drive configuration, featuring 191 horsepower as a full hybrid electric vehicle. This is configured with two electric motors and an Atkinson 4-cylinder, with the electric motors being powered by a 1.1-kilowatt battery pack. This nets you some of the best available fuel economy from a compact pickup truck on the market. The 2.5-liter hybrid comes paired with a continuously variable transmission and battery-saver technology to get the most range out of the battery pack.

A Variety of Wheel Options

There are also a number of different wheel options depending on what you want out of the Maverick when it comes to performance and off-roading. For the off-road packages, you have all-terrain tires that can help you maintain grip and traction on dirt or gravel roads. However, if you’re more interested in basic travel, there are multiple wheel options depending on the trim and powertrain, including an array of wheels that include multiple 17-inch and 18-inch options.

Utility

The big selling point for the Ford Maverick is its modularity. You have many ways to use the utility of the Maverick, especially for many basic and expected features like towing and trailering. There are two different ratings for the towing capacity of the 2024 Maverick due to the differences in the powertrain specs.

Towing and Payload

For the 2.5-liter hybrid, the Maverick supports towing up to 2,000 lbs, which is perfect for those needing a compact truck to move around a couple thousand pounds of cargo. The 2.5-liter hybrid also allows you to manage a payload of up to 1,500 lbs in the rear cargo bed. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost has slightly higher tow ratings. So, you can choose whether you want higher fuel economy or tow ratings. With the EcoBoost, you have a max trailering rating of 4,000 lbs, which is great for a compact truck. This enables you to tow small vehicles, a small boat, or other similar cargo. With the EcoBoost, you also have a max payload of 1,500 lbs, just like the 2.5-liter hybrid.

A Versatile Truck Bed Design

Additionally, every model comes with the patented FLEXBED Storage System, so you can modify and alter the layout of the truck bed as you see fit. It was designed from the ground up with organizational and modular storage in mind and ultimately with the versatility being put into the hands of the owner. This includes a bed with 33.3 cu.ft. of cargo volume, with two tailgate cleats, two 12-volt do-it-yourself power outlets, an optional 110-volt power outlet, eight 2×4 pockets, eight tie-down cleats, two storage cubby compartments, four threaded do-it-yourself bed holes, two 2×6 pockets, and of course the Multi-Position Tailgate.

On the subject of the Multi-Position Tailgate, you get the ability to open it in full, lock it in at half-closed, or use it as a workbench. The construction of the Maverick is also designed for easy access, with low bed sides so you can easily reach in and grab what you need. With the utility rails and threaded holes, you can literally build out storage compartments, rail racks, utility boxes, and all sorts of other useful carrying racks, dividers, or lighting installations to use the truck for a wide variety of different tasks and functions. There are also available tonneau covers, spray-in bed-liner support, and accommodations for a hitch receiver with a 4-pin connector.

Convenience

A green tumble is show in the cup holder of a 2024 Ford Maverick.

Beyond the utility and performance, the 2024 Ford Maverick is designed to be an enjoyable, compact, and fun truck to drive. It’s not trying to do more than what it was intended to do. Truck shoppers looking for a vehicle for the family that seats up to five can rejoice as the Maverick is in a SuperCrew four-door format and has a classic truck design with a comfortable interior; such shoppers will be more than pleased with what the Maverick has to offer. Multiple storage compartments are available throughout the interior, while the bucket seats make for easy access to get into and out of the vehicle.

Seating

There is the available 8-way power driver seat with lumbar support and 6-way manual front passenger seat. You have an armrest storage compartment, a front console with an e-Shifter, a seat-back map pocket, and an easily accessible front dashboard that’s clean and concise. For an extra level of comfort, there is also the availability of ActiveX seating, available in either Black or an Onyx color scheme. The rear seats also offer cupholders, an armrest, and a flip-up cushion.

Connectivity

When it comes to the tech side of things, there is an 8-inch LCD touchscreen that enables all of the basic infotainment functionality and app support you would expect from a Ford SYNC 3 suite. There is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, along with Wi-Fi for connecting multiple devices to the Maverick as a network hotspot if need be. There is also the availability of SiriusXM Satellite Radio so that you can experience all your favorite stations while on the go.

Standard Safety Features

When it comes to safety, you have all of the standard features at your disposal and working on your behalf, such as a full suite of airbags, including the Safety Canopy that deploys side-curtain airbags for both front and rear occupants. It also includes a suite of safety and driver-assistance features that are known as Ford Co-Pilot360. This includes helpful tools like Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and a Lane-Keeping System. The 2024 Ford Maverick covers all of the basics and then some when it comes to being functional, safe, and convenient, whether for work, play, or leisure driving.
